Located in the heart of Richmond, BC, the Vancouver Academy of Dance (VAD) is a premier institution dedicated to nurturing and developing ballet talent. Our ballet program is designed to build a strong technical foundation and guide students from beginner to pre-professional stages. Accredited by the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), VAD adheres to the highest international standards. Our team includes three esteemed instructors who are not only examiners but also integral members of our faculty.

Beginner: For those new to ballet, focusing on basic techniques and foundational skills. Students will learn essential positions, movements, and the basics of ballet etiquette.
 

Intermediate: For dancers with some ballet experience looking to refine their technique and expand their repertoire. Classes emphasize developing strength, flexibility, and musicality.
 

Advanced: For dedicated dancers aiming to perfect their technique and performance abilities. These classes include complex choreography and advanced technical training.
 

Pre-professional: For those preparing for a career in ballet, offering intensive training and performance opportunities. This level prepares students for auditions and professional engagements.

  • Examinations: Vancouver Academy of Dance (VAD) offers examination programs that follow the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) curricula. These programs are recognized by the British Columbia Ministry of Education as approved External Credentials, allowing students to earn Fine Arts credits towards their high school graduation requirements.

Audition & Prerequistes

Certain programs require auditions and prerequisite training to ensure students are placed in classes that best suit their skill level and goals:

  • Ballet: Dancers with previous experience must undergo an assessment or submit a video showcasing their proficiency and previous training. Alternatively, they can provide an RAD/ISTD report card.

  • Lyrical, Jazz, Acrobatic, Contemporary, and Chinese Dance: Ballet training and an audition are required for competitive levels.

  • K-pop, Hip Hop: Open to all levels, with competitive options available based on skill assessment.

Our instructors are accomplished dancers, international examiners, adjudicators, and award-winning choreographers.
