Vancouver Academy of Dance (VAD) is a premier institution dedicated to nurturing and developing acrobatic talent. Our program is designed to build a strong technical foundation and guide students from beginner to pre-professional stages. Utilizing the Acrobatic Arts Curriculum, VAD maintains rigorous educational standards. Our instructors bring a wealth of experience and are all certified Acrobatic Arts instructors.

Recreational Division

 

Designed for those who want to enjoy and explore acrobatics in a relaxed and fun environment, the Recreational Division is perfect for beginners and those looking to practice acrobatics for leisure. This stream focuses on developing basic acrobatic techniques and fostering a love for the discipline without the pressure of competition. Students will learn fundamental skills such as handstands, cartwheels, and basic tumbling while building strength, flexibility, and body awareness.

 

Competitive Division

 

For acrobats seeking to elevate their skills and perform at a higher level, the Competitive Division "VAD Acro-Elite Team" requires a strong foundation in basic acrobatic techniques. This division emphasizes advanced acrobatic skills, performance quality, and precision. Students in this stream will develop more complex tumbling sequences, partner balances, and dynamic elements. They will have opportunities to participate in competitions and performances, showcasing their talent and dedication. The Competitive Division also focuses on building the strength, flexibility, and body control necessary for executing advanced acrobatic maneuvers safely and effectively.

Our Acrobatic Instructor At Vancouver Academy  Of Dance

Regan Calicetto is a renowned choreographer, performer, and dance educator in Vancouver, known for her expertise in Acrobatics, Contemporary, Ballet, Hip-Hop, Jazz, and Tap. She has trained and performed internationally, working with prominent figures and companies such as Modus Operandi, Sweett Moves, and The Underground Circus. Highlights of her career include principal roles in The Lover's Cabaret and performances at Shine 2018 Mental Health Addiction Fundraiser. In 2020, she co-launched The One Dance Experience, focusing on mental health and positive competition. Certified in Acrobatic Arts AcroDance and Alixa Flexibility, Regan now specializes in acrobatics and tumbling, training dancers and teaching globally.

Regan Calicetto

Sophia began dancing at age 4 with Vancouver Academy of Dance, exploring styles like Ballet, Chinese Dance, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Acrobatics, and K-pop until her graduation in 2024. Her notable achievements include winning 1st overall senior solo at The One Dance Experience and reaching Top 50 at NYCDA Nationals in New York City. Sophia completed the Male RAD Advanced 2 Examination with distinction and holds Module 1 and 2 certifications in Acrobatic Arts. Currently, she balances teaching dance with pursuing a business degree at Simon Fraser University.

Audition & Prerequistes

Certain programs require auditions and prerequisite training to ensure students are placed in classes that best suit their skill level and goals:

  • Ballet: Dancers with previous experience must undergo an assessment or submit a video showcasing their proficiency and previous training. Alternatively, they can provide an RAD/ISTD report card.

  • Lyrical, Jazz, Acrobatic, Contemporary, and Chinese Dance: Ballet training and an audition are required for competitive levels.

  • K-pop, Hip Hop: Open to all levels, with competitive options available based on skill assessment.

Our instructors are accomplished dancers, international examiners, adjudicators, and award-winning choreographers.
