Programs & Courses

Ballet - Learn the fundamentals of dance. Develop grace, posture, strength and flexibility. Specializing in R.A.D. and I.S.T.D. Methods.

Jazz - From stylized to lyrical to funk to street jazz, classes consist of a warm-up, across the floor work and dance combo.

Tap - Develop rhythm and style through the art of tap dancing!

Hip Hop - Learn the latest street moves to the newest beats!

Breakdancin' - Start from the basics and learn to do the stunts and tricks of breakdancin'.

Chinese Dance - Learn various styles of Chinese dancing from classical to folk to national minorities.

National Dance - An educational dance program devised by the Imperial Society Teachers of Dancing (London, England) - covering dance styles, music, culture and the history of different European countries.

Musical Theatre - Train for stage, television or film production, learning popular show songs and dance basics.

Acrobatics/Flexibility/Contortion - A combination of gymnastics and dance.

Stretch & Strength - Focus on flexibility and learn low impact exercises for strengthening muscles.

NEW! Ballroom Dance - Learn the basics of latin and standard styles including waltz, tango, quickstep, cha cha, rumba, samba, jive, etc.

VAD Divisions

General Division - VAD's basic program emphasizing technique, artistic expression and the joy of dance.

Performance Program - Entrance into this program is by invitation only. Selected students will have the opportunity to perform and compete in various events throughout the year.

Examination Program - Entrance into this program is by audition. Students in this program will work towards taking dance examinations and will be permitted for entrance into the examinations at the discretion of the VAD faculty. Examinable curriculums offered by VAD include: Royal Academy of Dancing (R.A.D.) and Imperial Society Teachers of Dancing (I.S.T.D.). The B.C. Ministry has approved R.A.D. and I.S.T.D. dance curriculums to be accredited courses in B.C. Secondary Schools. Students who have reached a certain level of study and who have successfully passed their dance examinations will be given fine arts credits towards their high school graduation.
